Paint Minerals™ is a non-toxic blend of plant and mineral ingredients that will turn ordinary latex paint into decorator-style paints. Chalk-style paint, clay paint, gesso, impasto, gouache, and more! An affordable way to mix the colors and create textures you want without having to purchase quart after quart of expensive specialty paint. Follow our recipes and use any new or leftover flat paint. One Cup Recipe
Mix two generous tablespoons of Paint Minerals with 2-3 tablespoons of water in a jar with a tight-fitting lid & shake well. Paint Minerals should be a creamy consistency similar to yogurt or lotion. Add a bit more water if necessary & shake or stir again. Add the Paint Minerals mixture to one cup of flat* latex paint & shake really well one more time!

*Paint Minerals can be used with other types of latex but for a chalky, porous surface that accepts finishing well, flat paint is recommended. Latex with built-in primer can be thick & require additional water to achieve the desired consistency.

Impasto
Mix three tablespoons of Paint Minerals with 1/3 cup of flat latex. Shake or stir well for 20-30 seconds. This mixture can be left open to thicken or you can add more Paint Minerals to achieve the desired consistency.

Gesso
Mix 2 tablespoons of Elmer’s or other white glue with ¼ cup of white flat latex plus 1 tablespoon of water and 3 tablespoons of Paint Minerals. Shake well. Add more Paint Minerals or leave open overnight to thicken more.

Gouache
Use a fork or small whisk to thoroughly mix 4 tablespoons of dry pigment with 2 tablespoons of Paint Minerals. Mix two tablespoons of latex with two tablespoons of water. Make an indent in the dry pigment pile and add watered-down latex slowly, mixing until you achieve the desired consistency. Gouache will take a considerable amount of mixing. Unlike traditional gouaches, which can be reactivated and are not water-resistant, latex-based mixes will harden and cure and cannot be reactivated.

Note: Large amounts of Paint Minerals in small amounts of paint will lighten your paint color. After you impart your texture, use a wash of latex to deepen the color if you choose.
